CAN 2015 – Group D: Guinea Holds Ivory Coast in a Gritty 1–1 Draw
Guinea, a team that has overcome both sporting and humanitarian adversity, once again proved its resilience by holding Ivory Coast to a 1–1 draw in their opening Group D match at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
⚽ The Match Summary
Against all odds, the Syli National took the lead in the 36th minute. After a poor clearance by Serge Aurier, Ibrahima Traoré delivered a sharp cross that found Mohamed Lamine Yattara, who blasted home a left-footed volley past Ivorian keeper Gbohouo.
Despite trailing at halftime, the Elephants pushed for an equalizer — but their hopes took a major blow in the 57th minute, when star forward Gervinho was shown a straight red card for slapping a Guinean opponent off the ball.
Down to ten men, Ivory Coast responded with determination. Their efforts were rewarded when substitute Seydou Doumbia coolly finished a well-constructed attack to bring the score level.
🔁 Final Score: Ivory Coast 1–1 Guinea
Both teams share the spoils, but Guinea’s disciplined performance and ability to hold their nerve will certainly boost their confidence heading into their next group matches.
