Kevin Constant: “We Have Regrets, But This Point Gives Us Confidence”
Guinea nearly pulled off a shock result in their AFCON 2015 opener against Ivory Coast, leading for over 30 minutes after Mohamed Yattara’s 37th-minute strike. Even with a numerical advantage following Gervinho’s red card, the Syli National were pegged back by a Seydou Doumbia equalizer, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
After the match, Kevin Constant expressed his disappointment:
“We have some regrets about the match. It was an important match for us. We started well, played 90 quality minutes. We got a draw, even though we deserved the three points based on the match.”
Despite the result, the former AC Milan midfielder remains optimistic:
“It’s an important point for the rest of the competition and it will give us confidence.”
Regarding Guinea’s chances in Group D, Constant added:
“We knew before the competition that we had a tricky group — Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Mali are big nations. But we’re not afraid of anyone. No one expected us to play like that against Ivory Coast.”
Guinea’s next matches:
vs Cameroon – January 24
vs Mali – January 28
Constant concluded by urging caution:
“We shouldn’t get carried away. It’s only one point. The next matches will be just as tough.”
