AFCON 2015 – Spotlight: Who Is Given Singuluma, Zambia’s Early Hero?
While Group A of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations delivered its share of excitement with four goals across two matches, Group B exploded into life thanks to a lightning-fast goal by Zambia’s Given Singuluma. His strike in the very first minute against DR Congo marked the fastest goal of the tournament so far, putting the spotlight on a player some fans might not be very familiar with.
Who is Given Singuluma?
Born on July 19, 1986, Given Singuluma is a seasoned Zambian forward who currently plays for TP Mazembe, one of Africa’s most prestigious clubs based in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite not being part of Zambia’s legendary 2012 AFCON-winning squad, Singuluma has long been considered a reliable and technically sound player.
He did, however, feature in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, where he represented Zambia with distinction.
A Career of Continental Success
With TP Mazembe, Singuluma has enjoyed significant success at the continental level:
🏆 CAF Champions League winner: 2009, 2010
🏆 CAF Super Cup winner: 2010
These achievements underline his experience and quality, especially in high-pressure matches on African soil.
A Timely Goal and a Statement Made
His early strike against DR Congo wasn’t just a technical gem—it was a statement of intent. Though overlooked in 2012, Singuluma’s goal proves that he remains a vital part of Zambia’s squad and could play a key role in their quest for another title.
