AFCON 2015: Ghana vs. Ivory Coast in the Final – A Remake of 1992!

History Repeats: Ghana vs. Ivory Coast – AFCON Final, Just Like in 1992!
The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final will see Ghana and Ivory Coast clash in a rematch of the iconic 1992 final in Dakar. Back then, it was Gadji Céli’s Elephants who triumphed over Abedi Pelé’s Black Stars in a marathon penalty shootout (11–10), after a goalless draw.

Now, 23 years later, fate has aligned the same two giants for another historic showdown—this Sunday in Bata.

What makes this final even more poetic is the presence of Jordan Ayew, son of Abedi Pelé, who now carries his family’s legacy onto the same battlefield. Will he and his brother André Ayew avenge their father’s heartbreak?

Ghana’s Journey to the Final:
Group of Death survivors: Beat Algeria and South Africa.

Quarter-final: Dominated Guinea 3-0.

Semi-final: Beat hosts Equatorial Guinea 3-0, in a match marred by crowd violence and chaos.

Ivory Coast’s Path:
Took out Cameroon and Algeria en route to the final.

Beat DR Congo 3-1 in the semis, with goals from Yaya Touré, Gervinho, and Kanon.

Both teams are seeking redemption:

Ghana hasn’t lifted the AFCON trophy since 1982.

Ivory Coast is chasing their first title since 1992—ironically against Ghana.

Will it be revenge for the Ayews, or another Ivorian triumph under Hervé Renard, who could become the first coach to win AFCON with two different nations?

📅 Final: Sunday, Feb 8, 2015
⚔️ Ghana vs. Ivory Coast
🏆 A final 23 years in the making…

Who will write history this time?
