AFCON 2015: Ghana Leads Equatorial Guinea 2–0 at Halftime in Semi-Final Clash
Ghana has taken a strong step toward reaching the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final, leading Equatorial Guinea 2–0 at halftime of their semi-final clash.
The Black Stars displayed clear superiority and capitalized on their dominance late in the first half:
-
41st minute: Jordan Ayew opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Kwesi Appiah was brought down by goalkeeper Felipe Ovono following a brilliant through ball by Christian Atsu.
-
45th minute: Mubarak Wakaso doubled Ghana’s lead with a clinical finish on a swift counterattack, punishing a stretched Equatorial Guinean defense.
Despite being the host nation and the tournament’s surprise package, Equatorial Guinea has struggled to keep up with Ghana’s pace and organization.
Tensions began rising toward the end of the first half, and with a charged atmosphere in Malabo, the second half promises to be intense and possibly explosive. The Black Stars are just 45 minutes away from their first AFCON final since 2010.
