Michel Dussuyer: “Guinea Will Play Its Cards Right in Group D”
Guinea may not be the favorite in Group D of the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, but coach Michel Dussuyer insists his team is ready to shake things up. Drawn alongside African heavyweights Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Mali, the Syli National knows the challenge ahead—but isn’t backing down.
“It’s a big group with some very good teams. For us, it’s also very exciting to face these teams,” said Dussuyer in an interview with foot224.com. “Even if we respect these teams, that doesn’t stop us from being ambitious.”
Guinea, who qualified under difficult circumstances—playing all their home matches abroad due to the Ebola outbreak—has earned widespread admiration for their resilience and quality on the field. Led by players like Ibrahima Traoré, Mohamed Yattara, and Seydouba Soumah, the team will aim to go beyond the group stage.
“Everyone knows today what we’re capable of producing. So I think there will be a lot of attention from our opponents,” Dussuyer added. “In any case, for us, the objective is clear. We’re going to play our cards right, even if the conditions are extremely difficult. We’re going to give it our all.”
Guinea’s campaign kicks off on January 20 against Ivory Coast in Malabo. If Dussuyer and his men have their way, they might just be the spoilers of Group D.
