For the third-place match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, DR Congo faced Equatorial Guinea without their star striker Dieumerci Mbokani, who was ruled out due to a right thigh muscle injury.
Mbokani, top scorer for the Leopards in this tournament with 3 goals, confirmed his condition:
“I was in a lot of pain last night but it’s a little better. My doctor asked me not to push myself too hard at the risk of making the injury worse. I’ll be returning to Belgium very soon for treatment,” he told Top Congo FM.
In his absence, coach Florent Ibenge opted to rely on Yannick Bolasie and Jeremy Bokila to lead the Congolese attack. Additionally, this match marked the last international appearance for veteran goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba, known as much for his saves as for his famous “bum dance” celebrations.
