Daniel Cousin: “We Paid for Our Lack of Concentration”
Gabon stunned by Congo in Group A
Gabon missed a golden opportunity to seal early qualification for the knockout stage of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, falling 1-0 to Congo in a surprise result that has left the group wide open.
Former Gabon international Daniel Cousin shared his thoughts after the match, expressing disappointment over the result and concern ahead of the decisive clash against host nation Equatorial Guinea.
“Given the match and the chances we created, we should have scored,” said Cousin. “We lacked concentration, and we paid the price.”
The Panthers, who impressed in their opening win against Burkina Faso, now face a must-win situation on the final day of group play. Their final opponent—Equatorial Guinea, the host nation—will also be fighting for a place in the quarterfinals.
“The match against Equatorial Guinea won’t be easy. They’re at home, they’ll have the support of the crowd,” Cousin added. “We have to win, and so do they. There’s no such thing as an easy game at this level.”
