AFCON 2015: Congo Eye Quarter-Finals as Burkina Faso Face Elimination Threat
To the surprise of many, Congo currently tops Group A with four points, having secured a historic victory over Gabon—their first in the Africa Cup of Nations in 41 years. Now, Claude Le Roy’s Red Devils are one step away from reaching the quarter-finals of the 2015 AFCON.
Congo could even qualify with a narrow defeat, provided the other match in the group—Gabon vs Equatorial Guinea—ends in a draw. But Le Roy’s team will want to seal their fate with a convincing performance against Burkina Faso in Ebibeyin.
The 2013 finalists, Burkina Faso, are in a precarious position. With only one point and no goals scored in their first two outings (0-2 loss to Gabon and 0-0 draw with Equatorial Guinea), they must win, ideally by two goals, to be certain of progressing to the next round. Despite dominating possession in previous matches, the Stallions have struggled with finishing.
🟦 Confirmed Line-ups:
Burkina Faso:
Sanou – Koffi, B. Koné, Yago, Gouo – Kaboré, D. Koné – Nakoulma, Pitroipa, A. Traoré – Razack
Congo:
Mafoumbi – Baudry, Babele, Bissiki, F. N’Ganga – Bouka Moutou, Oniangué (C), N’Dinga – Bifouma, Doré, Litsingi
The pressure is high, the stakes are massive, and only a strong performance will save Burkina Faso from a shocking early exit.
