AFCON 2015: Gourcuff Denies Tensions in Algeria Camp Amid Mixed Performances
Despite being one of the favorites to win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria‘s journey so far has not fully lived up to expectations. After two group stage matches in Group C, Christian Gourcuff’s squad has shown flashes of quality but also signs of inconsistency.

Against South Africa, the Fennecs came away with a win, but their performance was underwhelming. Only a standout display from goalkeeper Raïs M’Bolhi saved them from a different outcome.

The second match, a 1-0 loss to Ghana, saw an improved display, but it wasn’t enough to secure points.
Dressing Room Rumors
Reports have surfaced alleging tensions in the Algerian camp, particularly after the loss to Ghana. Alleged clashes between key players Abdelmoumen Djabou, Hilal Soudani, and Madjid Bougherra were rumored to have occurred, supposedly indicating internal discord.
However, coach Christian Gourcuff was quick to dismiss the speculation, firmly denying any rift within the squad:
“It’s true that things are always happening in a group, but the relationships are excellent and there is a very good atmosphere within the group. There is a lot of unity and solidarity and that is invaluable,” he told Le Buteur.
“Now, there are completely false things being said here and there and I leave full responsibility to their authors. We have mainly spread lies and that is unacceptable.”
What’s Next for Algeria?
Algeria faces a decisive third group match against Senegal, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line. The Fennecs, sitting on three points, will need to deliver a top performance to meet pre-tournament expectations and silence the rumors of unrest.
The pressure is on — both on the field and behind the scenes.
