Ishak Belfodil Determined to Prove Himself at 2015 AFCON
Ishak Belfodil’s inclusion in Algeria’s squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations came as a surprise to many, particularly because of his limited playing time at Parma. However, the 22-year-old striker is eager to seize the opportunity and prove his worth on the continental stage.
Speaking to APS, Belfodil acknowledged the unexpected nature of his call-up:
“This CAN will be my first major tournament with the national team. I am preparing with the objective of giving the best of myself.”
Grateful for the confidence placed in him by coach Christian Gourcuff, he added:
“The coach has trusted me, I hope to return the favor.”
Belfodil is aware of the tough challenge ahead, as Algeria has been drawn into Group C, considered the “group of death,” alongside Ghana, Senegal, and South Africa.
“We have inherited a rather difficult group,” he admitted. “Our first objective will be to get out of the group stage, and then try to manage our progress.”
Despite his lack of minutes at club level, Belfodil is focused and motivated to contribute to Algeria’s ambitions at the tournament.
