Adrien Rabiot matches Milan greats with historic Serie A run

Adrien Rabiot has joined an exclusive group of Milan midfielders after helping the Rossoneri make a blistering start to Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina in Serie A.

The Frenchman scored as Milan raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes against Inter during the 10th round of the Italian league season.

According to Opta statistics, Rabiot is only the third Milan midfielder since Serie A returned to a 20-team format in the 2004-05 season to contribute to at least one goal in five successive league matches.

Rabiot has recorded four goals and two assists during his current run, placing him alongside two players who have previously achieved the feat while wearing the Milan shirt.

Hakan Calhanoglu reached the mark in July 2020, while Kaka did so during a spell that ran from October 2004 to May 2008.

Milan made their fast start against Inter count almost immediately. Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Rabiot doubled the advantage six minutes later.

Inter reduced the deficit through Bastoni in the 22nd minute, but Milan restored their two-goal lead shortly before half-time when Diego Moreira scored in the 43rd minute.

The opening 45 minutes therefore ended with Milan leading 3-1.
