Adnan Aziz: Benin forward’s journey from Djougou to football across Europe

Adnan Aziz has built his football career through a series of moves from Benin to the Czech Republic, France and Italy, using each new environment to develop as an attacker and learn how to adapt at senior level.

His route began in Djougou, where he first discovered football and started to see the sport as more than a pastime. The early stages of his development came with Tchemabi FC, where he attended his first training sessions, followed instructions from his first coaches and began to form ambitions of becoming a footballer.

At that stage, Aziz was learning the fundamentals of the game and gradually recognising the increasingly important role football could play in his life.

He later continued his development with Soleil FC in Benin’s top flight. That move introduced him to senior football, stronger competition and a greater level of physical and tactical demand.

Playing against more experienced opponents required Aziz to improve his reading of the game and respond to the demands of a higher standard. It was during this period that his style began to take shape. He developed into a powerful and mobile forward, capable of finding space while also competing effectively in physical duels.

Move to the Czech Republic

A major turning point came in 2019, when Aziz left Benin for Europe and joined FK Kraluv Dvur during the 2019-20 season.

The club competed in the CFL, the third tier of Czech football, giving the young forward his first experience of senior football in Europe. The move involved far more than changing clubs. Aziz had to leave the environment he knew in Djougou and adjust to life in another country, while also becoming familiar with a different style, pace and set of expectations.

He later referred publicly to that period in a publication about his time with FK Kraluv Dvur in 2019/20.

After his spell in the Czech Republic, Aziz continued his career in France. He first joined Angers MFC in Regional 1 before moving to Olympique Saumur in National 3.

Those two experiences provided different challenges and helped him continue his education in a game that demanded technical quality, physical strength and tactical understanding. France also exposed Aziz to another important part of a professional footballer’s development: consistency.

Potential alone was no longer enough. He had to reproduce his performances regularly, adjust to the demands of the squad and meet the expectations of different coaches.

Learning in Italy

The next stage of Aziz’s career took place in Italy. He played for Pro Cittiglio U19 before joining Licata Calcio in Serie D and then moving to Juvenilia Roseto, who compete at the fifth level of Italian football.

Each stop added to his experience and allowed him to keep developing. Italian football also offered a different tactical culture, particularly in the demands placed on an attacking player.

Aziz had to improve his understanding of collective movement, positioning, the use of space, timing, pressing and work without the ball. The experience added another layer to a career shaped by several footballing traditions.

His time in the Czech Republic introduced him to adult European football. France continued his development in a different competitive setting, while Italy provided another tactical approach. Together, those experiences helped him become a player increasingly able to adjust to new demands.

A career built on change

Aziz’s career can be viewed as a series of moves between clubs and countries. It can also be understood as a sustained education in adaptability.

He has had to change his country, language, dressing room, coach, system and, at times, the tempo of the game. Rather than spending his entire career in one familiar environment, he has repeatedly had to learn, settle and begin again.

That process has gradually turned what might once have appeared to be a weakness into a strength. From Djougou to European pitches, his progress has been shaped by opportunities that brought fresh challenges.

His path from Tchemabi FC to Juvenilia Roseto, through Soleil FC, the Czech Republic and France, reflects the determination of a player who chose to continue pursuing his ambitions away from his homeland. Each club has represented another step in the development of Adnan Aziz and another test of his ability to adapt.
