Adil Rami advises Ayyoub Bouaddi to follow his heart amid pressure to choose between Morocco and France
Former France international Adil Rami has offered advice to rising midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as the young talent weighs his international future between Morocco and France.
Bouaddi, regarded as one of the most promising young players emerging in European football, is eligible to represent both nations. His situation has attracted growing attention in recent months as supporters and analysts wait to see which national side he will ultimately commit to.
Speaking in a video interview with French outlet L1+, Rami reflected on the complexity of such decisions, noting that only a small number of players are faced with the opportunity to choose between two major football nations.
“Very few players have the chance to choose between two big national teams,” Rami said. “France is one of the biggest teams in the world, and Morocco is also becoming one of the strongest national teams in international football.”
The former defender, who won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, said Bouaddi’s situation reminded him of a similar dilemma he faced earlier in his career when he had to decide which country to represent.
“I remember when I went through the same thing,” he explained. “My message to Ayyoub Bouaddi is simple: you have the chance to choose between two great teams.”
Rami emphasised that external pressure should not influence a player’s decision when confronted with such a personal choice. According to him, instinct and personal conviction should guide the final decision.
“What matters is not the pressure from people or the media, but your heart,” he said. “It is like choosing between your father and your mother, Morocco or France.”
He encouraged the young midfielder to reflect carefully on where he feels the strongest sense of belonging before making a final call.
“Choose the place where you feel happy and proud,” he added. “And once you decide, give everything for that shirt.”
In recent years, Morocco has become an increasingly attractive option for dual nationality players, particularly following the national team’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
France, however, remains one of the most powerful and competitive national teams in world football, making Bouaddi’s choice even more difficult.
“Choosing between Morocco and France is not easy. Morocco today is one of the strongest teams in the world. I just wish you the best in whatever choice you make,” Rami said.
Currently, Bouaddi has yet to make his final decision, but discussion about his international future continues to intensify.
