Ademola Lookman is nearing his return to action for Atalanta after weeks on the sidelines due to injury which bodes well for Nigeria as the World Cup qualifiers loom next month.
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed that the Nigerian winger has resumed training and is on track to be available soon.
With this returns and the 2026 World Cup qualfiiers set to be played next month, the winger is expected to be available for the Super Eagles in their two crucial matches next month.
Gasperini provides update on Lookman’s recovery
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Gasperini revealed that Lookman and teammate Sead Kolašinac have both been training separately as they continue their recovery.
However, the duo is expected to rejoin full training in the coming days.
Kolašinac and Lookman have trained well in a differentiated way.
Between tomorrow [Sunday] and Monday, we will try to group them together to call them up against Club Brugge.
We hope that Lookman moves well. We are attentive, because the knee is a delicate area,” Gasperini stated.
Crucial return for Atalanta
Lookman’s return comes at an important time for Atalanta, who are competing on multiple fronts this season.
The 26-year-old winger has been a key player for La Dea, providing pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability from the flanks.
His recovery will offer Gasperini additional attacking options as Atalanta prepares for a busy schedule, including their upcoming clash with Club Brugge.
With Lookman’s return now imminent, Atalanta will be hoping he can quickly regain form and help push the team forward in both domestic and European competitions.
