Adem Zorgane insists he will not change his playing style

Algeria international Adem Zorgane has dismissed suggestions that he needs to improve his attacking statistics, insisting he will not abandon his playing style despite criticism of his contribution in goals and assists.

The Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder believes his influence on matches goes beyond the numbers recorded on the pitch, arguing that his ability to control the tempo, create opportunities and provide balance remains central to his team’s performance.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper La Dernière Heure, the 26-year-old defended his approach to the game, explaining that a player’s impact cannot always be measured through goals and assists.

“You can make the difference with an action without touching the ball. Conversely, you can get an assist by giving the ball to Messi, who will score after dribbling past three opponents ,” he explained.

Zorgane was equally firm when asked about the possibility of adjusting his style to satisfy the expectations of scouts and recruiters. The Algerian midfielder maintained that he understands his responsibilities within the team and has no plans to change the way he plays.

“I will never change my style because of that. I know my importance in the team’s game, in setting the tempo, creating opportunities and bringing calm.”

His comments come shortly after Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed an extension to his contract, underlining the Belgian club’s confidence in his abilities.

Zorgane joined the Brussels-based side from Charleroi in the summer of 2025, initially signing a deal that was due to run until 2029. His latest agreement adds another two years to that contract, keeping him at the club until June 2031.

The extension reflects the club’s appreciation of his contribution, particularly as they continue to compete in domestic football and the Champions League.

Since arriving at Union Saint-Gilloise, the midfielder has made 60 official appearances, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists. His performances have helped establish him as an important member of the squad.

Zorgane also spoke positively about his experience in Brussels, highlighting his relationship with the players, coaching staff and supporters as important reasons behind his decision to commit his future to the club.

“I feel good at the club and in Brussels. I have a good relationship with my teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans.”

The Algeria international is also determined to help Union Saint-Gilloise compete for silverware during the remaining years of his contract.

“We all share the same ambition: to win as many matches as possible. I am happy and proud to extend my contract. I look forward to continuing to fight with the team to win titles,” he added.

At 26, Zorgane appears settled at the Belgian club, where he has earned the trust of the management. His immediate focus will be on returning to his best level following an injury and continuing to deliver performances that justify the club’s decision to extend his stay.

Despite the criticism surrounding his attacking numbers, the midfielder remains convinced that his greatest strengths lie in the way he influences the overall performance of his team.
