Football legend Emmanuel Adebayor did not hold back as he criticized Ghana’s disappointing performance against Mozambique in the final group stage match of AFCON 2023. Despite initially holding a 2-0 lead courtesy of Jordan Ayew’s penalties, the Black Stars conceded a last-minute equalizer, resulting in a frustrating 2-2 draw against the Mambas.
Ghana, aiming for a triumphant qualification to the round of 16 after securing a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Egypt, faced Mozambique with hopes of advancing in the tournament.
However, the match took an unexpected turn, and the Black Stars failed to secure a decisive victory, leaving their fate hanging in the balance.
Present at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Emmanuel Adebayor did not shy away from expressing his disappointment in the Ghanaian team.
He highlighted a lack of motivation, desire, and communication, describing the overall performance as subpar.
“They played without desire, without motivation, without communication. It’s like they’re there to have fun.
It’s completely bad,” Adebayor remarked in an interview with Ghanaian journalist George Addo.

The former Arsenal striker emphasized that the players were well aware of the match’s significance for the nation but failed to exhibit the necessary urgency to secure a victory.
Expressing his dismay, Adebayor stated, “I am quite disappointed with this match.
They knew they had their destiny in their hands. They knew they had to win.
They knew it was a key match for the country, and the way they are playing is simply incredible.”
As Ghana now faces the prospect of being eliminated from AFCON 2023, Adebayor questioned the team’s future, asserting that even if they manage to qualify, he doubts their ability to make a meaningful impact in the tournament.
“I don’t know where the Black Stars will go from here because two points might not be enough. I don’t know where they want to go.
I think the best thing is for them to go home to Ghana so they can all return to their clubs.
We don’t see them doing anything. Let’s put things into perspective: even if they qualify, what will they do? It’s no longer useful,” concluded Adebayor.
