Adam Ounas targets Algeria return ahead of 2026 World Cup

Adam Ounas has declared his ambition to return to Algeria’s national team, insisting he is ready for a recall as he sets his sights on the 2026 World Cup.

The 29-year-old winger has not featured for the Fennecs since the arrival of Vladimir Petkovic as head coach.

Now playing for Al Shamal, Ounas says he is determined to prove he deserves another opportunity on the international stage.

After starting in his side’s match against Al Gharafa, where he produced a solid display, the former Napoli player addressed his future with the national team in the mixed zone.

“I try to give my all in every match and then we’ll see what happens with the national team. I’m always ready to be called up,” he said.

Ounas, who has earned 30 caps for Algeria, acknowledged that competition for places remains strong.

Nevertheless, he remains focused on maintaining his performances at club level in order to strengthen his case.

He also spoke openly about his hopes of featuring on football’s biggest stage. “Every player dreams of playing in the World Cup.

If they pick me, they pick me; if they don’t, I’ll keep working. There are still deadlines to meet, we’ll see.”

With the 2026 tournament on the horizon, Ounas is aware that consistency will be key if he is to regain the trust of the national coaching staff.

His experience and versatility offer valuable assets, but selection will ultimately depend on his form and the choices of the technical team.

For now, the winger’s priority remains clear: deliver strong performances with Al Shamal and demonstrate he can once again contribute to the ambitions of the Fennecs.
