Achraf Hakimi to face trial as PSG reaffirms presumption of innocence

Achraf Hakimi will face trial before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court after prosecutors confirmed that the case involving allegations dating from 2023 will proceed.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender has consistently denied the accusations made against him. His appeal to France’s Court of Cassation was unsuccessful, meaning the legal process will now move forward. A date for the hearing has not yet been announced.

PSG responded to the development through Le Parisien, stressing that Hakimi remains legally presumed innocent while the proceedings continue.

“Achraf Hakimi has always firmly denied the facts of which he is accused and remains presumed innocent at this stage. The club is committed to ensuring that its player has a calm, respectful working environment that complies with the fundamental principles of law,” PSG said.

The club also reaffirmed its position on violence and safeguarding.

“Furthermore, the club reiterates its constant and unequivocal commitment to combating all forms of violence, particularly sexual violence,” the statement added.

The case has placed Hakimi under intense media attention, but PSG’s statement indicates that the club will continue supporting him within the limits of legal procedure. The player will now await the court’s scheduling decision as the judicial process continues.
