Achraf Hakimi named among PSG penalty takers

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has named Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi among the players considered for penalty duties, explaining that the French champions do not rely on one specialist.

Speaking at a press conference, Enrique said several members of his squad had the ability to take penalties, with the choice depending on the circumstances of each match.

“Last year, we showed that we don’t have a true specialist—a player capable of scoring nine out of ten penalties. On the contrary, we have several players who possess the ability to take them,” he said.

Enrique explains PSG’s penalty approach

The Spanish coach said the decision over who takes a spot-kick is influenced by several factors, including the timing of the penalty, the player’s form and the scoreline.

“As for who takes the penalty, it depends on many factors: the timing of the kick during the match, the individual form of each player, the scoreline, and many other things,” he added.

Asked which players were being considered, Enrique named several options, including Hakimi.

“We have a list of three or four recommended players, including Vitinha, Dembélé, Beraldo, Hakimi, Kvaratskhelia, Doué, and Nuno Mendes. We have many players who are capable of taking penalties, and then we make the decision.”

Hakimi’s inclusion places the Morocco international among the players PSG can consider when deciding who should take a penalty.

PSG turn attention to Manchester City

After a 3–1 win over Le Mans, PSG turn their attention to European competition as they prepare to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Enrique’s side will look to test their attacking options against the English champions in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 encounter.
