Achraf Hakimi pays tribute to Morocco’s AFCON 2025 team after final loss

Achraf Hakimi has officially become an Africa Cup of Nations winner for the first time after CAF awarded Morocco the AFCON 2025 title at Senegal’s expense.

The decision follows a dramatic ruling by the CAF Appeal Board, which found that Senegal had forfeited the final after staging a walkout.

In a detailed statement, CAF explained that the Appeal Board applied Article 84 of the AFCON regulations and declared Senegal to have lost the final 3–0, with the result recorded in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

The board upheld Morocco’s appeal, overturned the earlier verdict of the CAF Disciplinary Board and ruled that the conduct of the Senegal team fell under Articles 82 and 84. It also confirmed that Senegal, through the actions of its team, had infringed Article 82, leading directly to the forfeit.

With all other requests dismissed, the outcome means Morocco are now the official AFCON 2025 champions.

For PSG star Hakimi, it marks a landmark moment in his international career, adding a long-awaited major trophy with his country to an already impressive list of honours at club level.
