Paris Saint-Germain’s right-back, Achraf Hakimi, has solidified his future with the French champions by signing a contract extension that binds him to the club until June 2029.
This decision comes in the wake of reported interest from his former club, Real Madrid, who were seeking a replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal.
Hakimi, 26, has been an integral part of PSG since his arrival in 2021.
His impressive performances have not only endeared him to the Parisian faithful but also attracted attention from top European clubs.
Despite the allure of returning to Madrid, Hakimi chose to continue his journey in Paris.
“I am very happy to continue my journey with Paris Saint-Germain,” Hakimi expressed.
“This club and its supporters really have something special.
Here, I have an ideal environment to work and flourish on the pitch.”
The Moroccan international’s new contract includes a significant salary increase, elevating his annual earnings from €10 million to €14 million net, making him the highest-paid right-back globally.
Hakimi’s commitment is part of PSG’s broader strategy to secure their core talents.
Alongside him, players like Nuno Mendes and Vitinha have also extended their contracts until 2029, while head coach Luis Enrique has renewed his deal until 2027.
Since joining PSG, Hakimi has made 147 appearances, contributing 17 goals and 27 assists.
His versatility and consistent performances have been pivotal in the club’s domestic and European campaigns.
Real Madrid’s interest in re-signing Hakimi was intensified following Dani Carvajal’s serious cruciate ligament injury.
However, Hakimi’s decision to remain in Paris underscores his belief in PSG’s project and his desire to achieve further success with the club.
As PSG continues to fortify its squad, Hakimi’s extended stay signals the club’s ambition to maintain stability and strive for excellence in both domestic and international competitions.
