Achraf Hakimi is one assist away from becoming the African player with the most assists in Champions League history after helping Paris St-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 last Tuesday.
The Morocco international supplied the final pass for one of PSG’s goals, taking his total in the competition to 19. That places the 103-cap, 12-goal defender level with Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, who is not qualified for this season’s Champions League with Trabzonspor.
Hakimi, who turns 28 in November, is now within one assist of the record held by Cameroon great Samuel Eto’o. The former striker leads the standings with 20 assists, a mark Hakimi could surpass during the current campaign.
The right-back has continued to collect personal milestones for both PSG and Morocco. His pursuit of Eto’o’s records is not new, with Hakimi already matching the former Cameroon international in another significant Champions League achievement.
On 30 May, Hakimi equalled Eto’o’s record for the most Champions League final victories by an African player, reaching three titles.
He won the competition with Real Madrid in 2018 before adding two further triumphs with PSG in 2025 and 2026. Eto’o lifted the trophy twice with Barcelona, in 2006 and 2009, before winning it again with Inter Milan in 2010.
Hakimi is also, with some qualifications, regarded as the most decorated African player in football history, having won 19 trophies.
