Achraf Hakimi breaks Riyad Mahrez mark and closes in on Mohamed Salah in the Champions League
Achraf Hakimi delivered another standout performance for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League against Chelsea, adding a fresh milestone to his growing European legacy.
The Moroccan right-back started the Round of 16 second leg already making history as the most-capped African defender in the competition with 73 appearances.
During the match, Hakimi set up Bradley Barcola for PSG’s second goal in the 14th minute, once again showcasing his timing and quality in the final third.
According to Squawka, that assist made him the first defender ever to provide five or more assists in two different Champions League seasons, having done so last term and repeating the feat this campaign. Since the start of last season, he now has 10 assists for PSG in the competition, more than any of his teammates.
French stats outlet Stats Foot notes that Hakimi has now reached 17 Champions League assists in his career, moving past Riyad Mahrez on 16. He is just one behind Mohamed Salah, who sits second among African players with 18, while Samuel Eto’o leads the all-time African list on 20. At 27, Hakimi continues to redefine what a modern full-back can offer at elite level.
