Moroccan centre-back Achraf Dari is poised to complete a transfer to Al Ahly after Stade Brestois granted permission for him to travel to Cairo. Both clubs have reached a comprehensive agreement, paving the way for Dari to sign with the Egyptian giants.
The move comes as Al Ahly seeks to bolster its defensive lineup, particularly in light of Mohamed Abdelmonem’s imminent departure to OGC Nice.
Head coach Marcel Koller expressed dissatisfaction with the available domestic defensive options, prompting the club to pursue an international signing.
Dari emerged as the preferred choice after a competitive bidding process involving his former club, Wydad Casablanca.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Stade Brestois have now cleared the way for Dari to travel to Egypt, where he is expected to finalize a four-year contract with Al Ahly.
The 25-year-old defender joined Stade Brestois from Wydad Casablanca in July 2022, with the transfer reportedly costing €2.7 million.
During his time with the French club, Dari made 24 appearances.
However, his game time was limited last season, leading to a loan spell at Belgian side Royal Charleroi, where he scored three goals in nine matches.
Dari is familiar to Al Ahly supporters, having been a key player for Wydad Casablanca when the Moroccan side defeated Al Ahly in the 2022 CAF Champions League final.
His arrival at Al Ahly will reunite him with Yahia Attiyat Allah, another former Wydad Casablanca player who joined Al Ahly on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy earlier this summer.
Additionally, Moroccan winger Reda Slim is also part of Al Ahly’s squad.
In addition to his club achievements, Dari was part of the Moroccan national team that made history by finishing fourth in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He notably scored in the third-place playoff against Croatia, further highlighting his capability and experience on the international stage.
Dari’s transfer to Al Ahly is expected to strengthen the club’s defensive options as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in domestic and continental competitions.
With his background and previous performances, Dari is anticipated to make a significant impact at Al Ahly, enhancing their prospects for the upcoming season.
