Accra Hearts of Oak earn first victory of the season against Bechem United
Accra Hearts of Oak registered their first three points of the Ghana Premier League season with a commanding 2-0 win over Bechem United. The Phobians controlled much of the match, showing early dominance from the opening whistle at the Accra Sports Stadium, but it wasn’t until the second half that their efforts bore fruit.
Despite their dominance in the first half, Hearts of Oak were unable to break through Bechem United’s defense.
The visitors held firm, and the teams went into the break with the score locked at 0-0.
However, the home side emerged for the second half with renewed determination and quickly turned the tide.
The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when Ransford Mensah unleashed a stunning free-kick to give Hearts the lead.
The perfectly struck set piece curled into the top corner, leaving the Bechem goalkeeper with no chance.
The goal ignited the home crowd, who had been eagerly waiting for a moment of magic.
With Bechem United trying to recover from the setback, Hearts of Oak continued to push forward.
Their efforts paid off again in the 72nd minute when last season’s top scorer, Hamza Issah, doubled the advantage.
Issah rose high in the box to meet a well-delivered cross, heading the ball past the Bechem goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
The goal all but sealed the victory for the Phobians.
Despite Bechem United’s attempts to find a way back into the match, Hearts of Oak maintained their composure and comfortably saw out the remainder of the game.
The victory provided a much-needed boost for the Accra-based side, giving them a positive start to what promises to be a challenging season.
After the match, Hearts of Oak coach, Ouattara, reflected on the win.
Speaking to Africa top sports, he downplayed the significance of the victory, describing the match as “normal.
” He praised his players for their efforts but emphasized that the team’s focus remains on building consistency.
“We are preparing a team that will start playing with a lot more consistency,” Ouattara said, signaling his ambitions for the season.
The win gives Hearts of Oak a strong foundation as they look to challenge for the league title this season.
With the first victory now secured, the Phobians will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures.
