AC Milan target Zakaria El Ouahdi as Ruben Amorim rebuild takes shape

AC Milan have stepped up their interest in KRC Genk right-back Zakaria El Ouahdi as they plan for a potential departure and look to build a compact squad for new manager Ruben Amorim.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri are preparing for the likely exit of Zachary Athekame, who is expected to join Olympique Lyonnais. Milan are considering several options for the position, but Morocco international El Ouahdi has emerged as a particularly attractive candidate.

The 23-year-old has impressed with his consistency and strong performances for KRC Genk. He is under contract with the Belgian club until June 2028, giving Genk a strong negotiating position should Milan make a formal approach.

El Ouahdi’s performances have also increased his market value. Transfermarkt currently estimates the defender’s worth at 17m euros.

The Morocco international enjoyed an outstanding individual campaign with KRC Genk last season. He made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists.

Those figures represent a significant attacking contribution from a full-back and help explain why El Ouahdi has attracted interest from a number of major European clubs. AS Roma are also understood to be monitoring the player, according to an exclusive report by Africafoot.

El Ouahdi currently earns an annual salary of 241,280 euros, equivalent to 156,832,000 FCFA, in Belgium.

Milan’s interest comes as the club prepares to begin its Italian league campaign. AC Milan are due to face Torino in their opening match of the season, with the Rossoneri continuing their squad reconstruction under Amorim.

Betting company 1xbet lists AC Milan as the favourites for the fixture, offering odds of 1.75 for a home win. A draw is priced at 3.80, while a Torino victory is rated at 4.50.
