Abubeker Nuri: Ethiopia Bunna eye move for Insurance Corp goalkeeper

Ethiopian goalkeeper Abubeker Nuri of Insurance Corp. is being linked with a move to domestic rivals Ethiopia Bunna as the 27-year-old enters the final year of his contract.

Nuri’s current deal with Insurance Corp. runs until 30 June 2026, and Ethiopia Bunna are monitoring his situation closely as they weigh up a move within the Ethiopian Premier League. The Addis Ababa club are understood to be looking at options in goal ahead of the new campaign, with Nuri’s contractual position and experience in the division making him a potential target.

Standing at 1.93m and featuring as Insurance Corp.’s first-choice goalkeeper, Nuri has established himself since arriving from Bahirdar Ketema in July 2022. He was part of the Insurance Corp. side that claimed the Ethiopian championship in the 2024-25 season, a title that has raised his profile and helped push his market value to around €75,000.

Born in Illubabor on 10 June 1999 and a right-footed goalkeeper by trade, Nuri has built his reputation in the domestic league, progressing from Jimma Aba Jifar to Bahirdar Ketema before his move to Insurance Corp. His performances over the past campaign, culminating in the league triumph, have made him one of the more notable goalkeepers in the competition.

With less than a year remaining on his contract, Insurance Corp. face a decision over whether to secure Nuri on extended terms or consider offers, with Ethiopia Bunna among the clubs now circling as the 2026 window approaches.
