Aboubaka Soumahoro: RCD Mallorca eye move for Hamburgs French-Ivorian defender
RCD Mallorca are weighing up a move for French-Ivorian centre-back Aboubaka Soumahoro, who is currently under contract at Bundesliga side Hamburg.
The LaLiga2 club are exploring defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season and have identified the 21-year-old left-footed defender as a potential target. Soumahoro is tied to Hamburg until June 2029, meaning any deal would require the German clubs approval rather than a free transfer scenario.
Soumahoro joined Hamburg from Paris FC in February 2025 for a fee of 2 million and has since been eased into senior football in Germany. He has featured in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, as well as turning out in the Regionalliga Nord as part of his development. In the German top flight he has made four appearances, adding to his previous experience in Ligue 2 with Paris FC.
Last season Hamburg sent Soumahoro on loan to Saint-Etienne, with the spell running through the 2025-26 campaign before he returned to his parent club at the end of June. The temporary move back to France followed his early steps in senior football, where he had already played in Ligue 2 after progressing through Paris FCs youth ranks.
Born in Paris and eligible for both France and Cote dIvoire, Soumahoro first came through the academy at Paris Saint-Germain before moving across the capital to Paris FCs youth setup. Standing at 1.87m and naturally left-footed, he profiles as a modern ball-playing centre-back, a profile that is relatively scarce and often in demand on the market. His current estimated market value is 1.2 million, down from a previous peak of 1.8 million.
Across his young career he has already accumulated over 40 league appearances at various levels, including National U19 and National 2 in France, where he also contributed a handful of goals from defence. That exposure across youth, reserve and senior competitions has helped establish him as a promising option for clubs looking to invest in potential rather than a finished product.
Talk of a move remains at a rumour stage, with Soumahoro contracted to Hamburg until 2029 and RCD Mallorca assessing the feasibility of a deal for the 21-year-old centre-back.
