Ahmed Farouk, a correspondent for Cairo News Channel reporting from the Ivory Coast, highlighted the calmness of yesterday, Tuesday, for the Egyptian national team’s mission participating in the Africa Cup of Nations “AFCON 2023.”
However, the atmosphere was ablaze with excitement regarding the results.
During an interview with presenter Basant Akram on the “AFCON 2023” program via the Cairo News Channel, Farouk stated, “Moments ago, the Algerian national team exited, finishing at the bottom of their group for the second consecutive tournament, sparking significant anger among fans and the media.
It appears that the coaching staff led by Djamel Belmadi will face challenging times, especially given the substantial criticism from Algerian media.
I believe their loss to Mauritania will result in a tough situation for the coaching staff.”
He mentioned that Mohamed El-Shennawy, the national team’s goalkeeper, would travel to Germany for treatment following his injury.
After the injury, there was communication between the national team’s coaching staff and Al Ahly club, and an agreement was reached for El-Shennawy to undergo surgery due to a dislocated shoulder.
The recovery is expected to take a month and a half for the shoulder to return to its place and an additional month for rehabilitation.
Consequently, El-Shennawy is not expected to return to the field for at least 3 to 4 months.
Farouk emphasized the significant enthusiasm among African football fans to witness Abou Gabal’s performance.
Abou Gabal’s extraordinary popularity in Africa stems from his outstanding display in the previous tournament held in Cameroon.
Even journalists and figures anticipating encounters with Egypt in the Round of 16 express concerns about facing Abou Gabal.
