Aberdeen sign France-Morocco winger Hicham Mahou as free agent

France-Morocco winger Hicham Mahou has joined Aberdeen after leaving Swiss club FC Lugano, giving the Scottish Premiership side a new right-sided attacking option.

The 27-year-old has signed a contract with Aberdeen running until 30 June 2027. Mahou had been without a club since departing Lugano on 1 July before completing his move to Pittodrie on 9 September.

Mahou plays primarily as a right winger and is right-footed. Born in Nice, he represented both France and Morocco through his nationality, and began his senior career with Nice’s reserve side after progressing through the club’s youth system.

He joined Lausanne-Sport from Nice in July 2021 and moved to Lugano a year later. Mahou spent four seasons with the Swiss club, making 139 appearances in the Super League, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists.

His time at Lugano also included European football. He made six appearances in the Conference League and scored once, while also featuring in Champions League and Europa League qualifying matches. He recorded a further appearance in the Europa League proper and supplied an assist during his European career.

Mahou’s domestic record includes experience across several levels of French football, including spells with Nice’s senior side, Red Star and the club’s reserve team. He made six Ligue 1 appearances for Nice and also played in France’s National and National 2 competitions.

The winger’s arrival adds a player with experience in both French and Swiss football to Aberdeen’s squad. His most substantial run of matches came in Switzerland, where he established himself as a regular contributor over more than a century of top-flight appearances.

Aberdeen confirmed the signing nine days after Mahou became a free agent, with the player now committed to the Scottish club for the 2026-27 campaign and the following season.

Mahou’s move to Aberdeen was completed on 9 September 2026, with his contract set to expire on 30 June 2027.
