Chelsea Eye Move for Ghanaian Defender Abdul Rahman Baba
Chelsea could be set to add another Ghanaian talent to their ranks, with young left-back Abdul Rahman Baba emerging as a reported transfer target for the Premier League giants.
According to L’Équipe, the Blues are prepared to offer €15 million to German side FC Augsburg for the 20-year-old defender, who has enjoyed an impressive season in the Bundesliga. Baba featured in 28 league matches this campaign, quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising full-backs in German football.
If the deal materialises, Baba would follow in the footsteps of fellow Ghanaians Michael Essien and Christian Atsu, both of whom have previously worn the Chelsea shirt.
Known for his pace, stamina, and attacking flair from the left flank, Baba has also begun making his mark on the international stage. He has already earned 11 caps for Ghana and played a key role in the Black Stars’ run to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelsea’s interest in the young defender aligns with their strategy of recruiting emerging talent to strengthen their squad depth and build for the future. With speculation around the future of some of their current full-backs, Baba’s potential arrival could offer both immediate cover and long-term value.
No official statement has been made by either club, but negotiations are reportedly progressing, and Chelsea may act quickly to secure the promising Ghanaian before other top European clubs enter the race.
