Abdul Fatawu: Ghana winger joins Ipswich Town from Leicester in €23.45m deal

Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu has joined Ipswich Town from Leicester City in a permanent transfer worth €23.45m. The 22-year-old right winger has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club, keeping him at Portman Road until 30 June 2031.

Fatawu arrives from Leicester after a prolific spell in the Championship, where he produced 15 goals and 21 assists in 84 appearances and helped the Foxes win promotion as English second-tier champions in the 2023-24 season. His form in that campaign earned him a permanent move to Leicester from Sporting in 2024 following an initial loan.

The left-footed attacker, who was born in Tamale and stands at 1.77m, has also gained experience in top-flight and European football with Sporting, featuring in the Portuguese league as well as the Champions League and Europa League earlier in his career. He previously represented Sporting’s under-23 side after moving to Portugal from Ghana, where he played for Steadfast FC and had a loan spell with Dreams FC.

On the international stage, Fatawu was part of the Ghana side that won the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 and featured at the 2026 World Cup, making four appearances at the tournament. His latest move also comes with a market value listed at €20m, underlining Ipswich’s significant investment to secure his services.

Fatawu will now continue his career in the Premier League with Ipswich Town after completing his transfer from Leicester City.
