Abdul Fatawu: Ghana winger at Leicester linked with Premier League move to Ipswich Town

Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu of Leicester City is being linked with a summer move to Premier League side Ipswich Town as the Suffolk club explore wide attacking options ahead of the new season.

Fatawu, 22, is under contract at Leicester until 30 June 2029, a deal that puts the League One side in a strong position in any negotiations. He is currently valued at around €20 million, a figure that would represent a significant outlay for Ipswich as they look to strengthen after establishing themselves in the top flight.

The right winger, who prefers to operate on the flank cutting in from the right onto his left foot, only joined Leicester on a permanent basis on 1 July 2024. The Foxes paid Sporting €16.25 million after an initial loan spell, rewarding a breakthrough campaign that coincided with Leicester winning the English second tier title in 2023-24.

Fatawu has maintained his prominence on the international stage, featuring for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, where he appeared in all four of his country’s matches. At club level last season his involvement in the FA Cup was limited, underlining Leicester’s reliance on him primarily in league competition.

Ipswich’s interest comes at a time when Leicester, now in the third tier, face renewed questions over how to balance a long-term rebuild with the financial realities of holding a high-value asset. With three years of senior experience in Europe behind him and long-term security at the King Power Stadium, Fatawu’s situation is likely to attract further attention as the window develops, but Leicester’s stance is shaped firmly by the length of his existing contract.
