Nigerian forward Abdul Abdulmalik refuses to train as Djurgården pursue £1.5m move

Nigerian forward Abdul Abdulmalik has stopped training and playing for Boreham Wood as he pushes for a move to Swedish club Djurgården.

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter confirmed that the 23-year-old is currently refusing to take part in the club’s training sessions and matches, despite having two years remaining on his contract.

Djurgården have already made two attempts to sign Abdulmalik, with the Swedish club’s latest proposal reported to be worth more than £1.5 million.

According to Sky, both offers have been rejected by Boreham Wood, leaving the player’s future unresolved.

Abdulmalik, however, appears determined to secure a move and continue his career elsewhere. The Nigerian made his position clear in a post on Instagram, saying he was “ready for a new challenge,” while acknowledging that opportunities of that nature do not come around often.

The situation has now escalated with Abdulmalik no longer taking part in Boreham Wood’s football activities.

Hunter confirmed that the forward has stopped training with the club and is also refusing to play matches. His decision comes despite the fact that he remains under contract with Boreham Wood for another two seasons.

The disagreement centres on Abdulmalik’s desire to join Djurgården and Boreham Wood’s decision to reject the offers received from the Swedish side.

Djurgården’s interest has already resulted in two formal proposals, with the strongest offer understood to have exceeded £1.5 million. Boreham Wood have nevertheless turned down both bids.

Hunter believes progress has been made in discussions between the parties over the overall transfer fee.

The Boreham Wood chairman says negotiations have now moved towards the remaining details of the proposed agreement rather than the main transfer amount.

Those discussions are understood to be focused on bonuses and the inclusion of a potential future resale clause.

For now, Abdulmalik remains a Boreham Wood player, but his refusal to train or play has added further tension to the situation as Djurgården continue to pursue his signing.

The 23-year-old’s desire for a “new challenge” has put pressure on the clubs to find an agreement, with negotiations continuing over the financial terms of a possible transfer.
