Explosive rise: Senegal rising star Abdourahmane Mbodj sparks fierce European transfer battle

Seventeen-year-old Abdourahmane Mbodj has emerged as one of the most sought-after prospects in Senegalese football after a prolific start to the season placed him on the radar of clubs across Europe.

The Génération Foot forward, regarded as one of the standout revelations of the current Senegalese Ligue 1 campaign, is attracting interest from a host of European sides.

Among those monitoring his progress are FC Metz, Olympique de Marseille, Stade Rennais, Racing Club de Lens, Lille OSC, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Galatasaray.

Mbodj’s rise has drawn comparisons with several distinguished alumni of Génération Foot.

The Dakar-based academy has produced talents such as Sadio Mané, Ismaïla Sarr and Pape Matar Sarr, all of whom progressed to major European leagues. At just 17, Mbodj appears poised to follow a similar path.

Joint top scorer in Ligue 1

With six goals in 15 appearances, Mbodj is currently joint top scorer in the 2025/26 Senegalese Ligue 1 season, level with Boubacar Coly of Casa Sport.

His output has marked him out as one of the most clinical young forwards in the country.

Technically accomplished and sharp in front of goal, he combines pace with intelligent movement.

His ability to contribute assists as well as goals underlines his versatility.

Coaches describe him as a forward capable of leading an aggressive press while maintaining a high work rate throughout matches.

Part of Génération Foot’s attacking trio

This season, Mbodj has spearheaded Génération Foot’s attack alongside Mouhamed Dieng and Sega Fall Mbodj.

Their complementary qualities and understanding have formed a dynamic front line.

After 16 league matches, Génération Foot sit sixth with 21 points, nine behind leaders AJEL.

While the gap is significant, the campaign remains open, and the club continues to target both the league title and the Senegalese Cup.

European interest grows

Interest in Mbodj is intensifying ahead of the summer transfer window.

FC Metz, Génération Foot’s long-standing partner club, are reportedly among those keen to secure his signature.

Senegalese officials are said to be seeking more than €2m for the teenager, whose current market valuation stands at €300,000 on Transfermarkt.

Should a move materialise, Mbodj would join a growing list of Génération Foot graduates who have established themselves on the continental stage.

For now, his focus remains on sustaining his form and guiding his club through the remainder of the domestic season.
