Abdoulaye Faye: Celta Vigo eye move for Senegal defender from Leverkusen

Abdoulaye Faye, the Senegal centre-back currently at Bayer Leverkusen, is being strongly linked with a move to LaLiga side Celta de Vigo. The Spanish club are weighing up a deal for the 21-year-old as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.

Talks are described as highly advanced, with the probability of a transfer currently rated at 91%, although no agreement has yet been finalised between the clubs. Faye is under contract at Leverkusen until 30 June 2030, meaning any move to Celta would require the Germans to sanction a permanent transfer or a new loan arrangement rather than a free move.

Faye joined Leverkusen in July 2025 from Swedish side BK Hacken in a deal worth €2.7m, and spent much of last season on loan at French club FC Lorient before returning to the Bundesliga side at the end of June 2026. He is valued at around €4.5m after his recent development in European football.

The left-footed defender, who stands at 1.91m and was born in Kaolack, has already built up experience in both Sweden and France, registering regular league minutes in Ligue 1 and the Swedish second tier across recent campaigns. He also scored twice in the Svenska Cupen and was part of the Hacken squad that lifted the Swedish Cup in 2025.

With a long-term deal in Germany and his market value rising, Leverkusen are in a strong position at the negotiating table as Celta attempt to bring the Senegalese defender to LaLiga.
