Abdoulaye Fall has been officially elected as the new President of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), decisively defeating rival Mady Touré in the second round of voting held on Saturday, 3 August 2025.
Fall secured an overwhelming majority with 322 votes, compared to Touré’s 30, marking a significant shift in the leadership of Senegalese football.
The path to victory was already paved in the first round, where Fall emerged as the clear frontrunner, garnering 301 votes.
His closest competitor, Mady Touré, trailed with 116, while the incumbent, Augustin Senghor, who has been at the helm of the FSF for over 15 years, found himself in a distant third place with 92 votes.
Despite this commanding lead, Fall fell short of the two-thirds majority required to clinch the presidency outright, necessitating a second round as stipulated by FSF statutes.
The second round served merely as a formality, as Fall’s momentum proved unstoppable.
He consolidated his dominance by not only retaining his initial support base but also attracting a significant portion of the votes that had gone to Senghor.
The final tally of 322-30 in Fall’s favour left no room for doubt about the direction in which the majority of FSF delegates wanted to take the federation.
With this victory, Abdoulaye Fall ushers in a new era, closing the chapter on Augustin Senghor’s long-standing leadership.
Senghor’s tenure, which spanned more than a decade and a half, saw Senegal rise to prominence on the African football stage.
However, recent years have been marked by mounting challenges within the federation, including structural inefficiencies, financial strains, and persistent organisational hurdles.
The timing of this leadership transition is critical.
The FSF is tasked with navigating a complex landscape, with preparations for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) looming large, while domestic football continues to grapple with underdevelopment and a lack of robust infrastructure.
Despite the celebratory tone surrounding Fall’s election, the process has not been without controversy.
In the aftermath of his defeat, Mady Touré publicly denounced what he described as widespread corruption and vote-buying during the election.
There was corruption. I appeal to the State of Senegal, Touré declared, urging authorities to launch an investigation into alleged electoral malpractice and the conduct of certain delegates.
Touré’s accusations have cast a shadow over an election that had otherwise been hailed as a pivotal moment for Senegalese football.
However, the FSF’s Electoral Commission proceeded to ratify the results, affirming the legitimacy of Fall’s triumph.
As Abdoulaye Fall prepares to assume office, all eyes will be on how he addresses the federation’s pressing issues and whether he can unite the football community under his leadership.
