Abdoulaye Diaby, a former player in the Hungarian league, has expressed his belief that Naby Keïta could be a valuable addition to Ferencváros, bringing both his experience and talent to the team.
Diaby, who currently plays for St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League, spent two years at Újpest FC from 2020 to 2022 and has gained extensive knowledge of Hungarian football during his time there.
In a recent interview with Africafoot, Diaby praised the competitiveness of the Hungarian league, emphasizing the intense clashes between top clubs like MTK Budapest, Ferencváros, Újpest, and Debrecen.
He described the league as having a “good level,” with some exceptional teams alongside a few average ones.
Diaby highlighted that the encounters between the six major clubs are often high-stakes, with the matches boasting a high level of quality.
He further added, “Hungary is a football country.
The stadiums are often full during big matches, and there is also an atmosphere in the stands.
Diaby’s own career in Hungary was marked by success.
He played 55 matches for Újpest FC, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.
His time in Hungary allowed him to experience the intensity of the local competition, further solidifying his opinion of the league’s quality.
When asked about the recent loan signing of Guinean midfielder Naby Keïta to Ferencváros from Werder Bremen, Diaby shared his thoughts on the potential impact of the move.
Regarding Naby Keïta’s arrival at Ferencváros, I don’t know what to say, because I didn’t really follow him.
I know he plays in Germany, before joining Ferencváros on loan.
Maybe with his experience and qualities, he could help the team,” said Diaby.
He continued, “Ferencváros is already a big team in Hungary, and if they decided to take him, it’s because he will be able to help the team maintain its position as first.
Currently, Ferencváros sits second in the Hungarian league with 31 points, just one point behind leaders Puskás Akadémia FC. With one match in hand, they will be looking to Keïta to provide the experience and skills needed to help them clinch the top spot.
