Lille Loanee Abdoulaye Diaby Shines in Belgium, Still Dreams of Breakthrough at LOSC
On loan from Lille OSC, Abdoulaye Diaby is making headlines in Belgium. The Malian striker, currently in his second season with Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz, has been in red-hot form, netting 11 goals in the Jupiler Pro League. His performances have earned him a regular starting role and recognition as one of the most prolific strikers in the Belgian top flight.
Despite his success abroad, Diaby remains committed to breaking into the first team at Lille, where he is under contract until 2016. “I still have a one-and-a-half-year contract at Lille. I am still convinced that my future lies there. It is still a dream of mine to one day wear the Lille jersey in official competition,” Diaby told Het Laatste Nieuws.
The striker is also eyeing an opportunity created by Divock Origi’s departure to Liverpool: “Origi’s move opens up new prospects for me. But, honestly, I don’t know what Lille intends to do with me. I know they’re following me.”
Until Lille makes its intentions clear, Diaby remains focused on delivering for Mouscron. “I feel good here, I can show myself every week. I’ve never regretted my loan here. Mouscron was the right choice to launch my career,” he added.
With his form continuing to impress, a return to Lille could be on the horizon for the 23-year-old as he pushes to fulfill his dream in Ligue 1.
