Abdou Diallo withdraws from Lions squad due to injury

Abdou Diallo withdraws from Lions squad due to injury

The gathering of the Lions, Senegal’s national football team, commenced on Monday in Amiens with preparations for upcoming fixtures. However, the squad experienced a setback as defender Abdou Diallo withdrew from the group due to injury.

Of the 31 players summoned by head coach Aliou Cissé, 30 reported for duty, with Abdou Diallo being the only absentee.

Diallo’s absence is attributed to an injury sustained at his club, rendering him unfit to join the national team in France. It has been confirmed that Diallo will not be replaced in the squad.

According to a statement from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), Diallo is nursing a knee injury, marking the third instance of injury within the Lions’ camp this March.

While Fodé Ballo-Touré and Mamadou Lamine Camara were initially named in the squad, they were replaced due to their respective injuries.

The Lions wasted no time and conducted their inaugural training session at the Crédit Agricole la Licorne stadium on Monday.

With 29 players in attendance, defender Abdoulaye Seck was notably absent but is expected to join the team on the following day to commence preparations for the upcoming fixtures scheduled for March 22 and 26.

Subsequent training sessions are set to be held behind closed doors as the team intensifies its preparations ahead of the upcoming matches.

The Lions, led by Coach Aliou Cissé, are determined to overcome the challenges posed by injuries and maintain their focus as they gear up for the crucial fixtures on the horizon.
