Abdou Diallo set for Europe return as transfer interest grows
Senegal international Abdou Diallo is expected to return to European football as his contract situation in Qatar nears its conclusion, with several clubs already showing interest in the defender.
The 29-year-old is approaching the end of his spell in the Middle East and is set to become a free agent next June after his time with Umm Salal and the expiry of his contract at Al-Arabi SC.
This status will allow him to choose his next destination without a transfer fee, increasing his appeal on the market.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany, Diallo is now preparing for a potential return to Europe, with multiple clubs monitoring his situation.
His availability as a free agent, combined with his experience at international level, has placed him on the radar of several teams, particularly in France.
Interest in the defender is not new. During the previous winter transfer window, OGC Nice made a strong attempt to secure his signature, although negotiations ultimately did not lead to a deal.
Other clubs, including Anderlecht and Los Angeles FC, were also linked with a possible move, underlining his continued value.
In Ligue 1, several options are being assessed. RC Strasbourg are considered less likely to pursue a move due to their focus on younger players with resale potential.
By contrast, Stade Rennais could represent a more realistic destination, with the club reportedly considering adding experience to their defensive line as they look towards European competition.
Diallo’s experience at top-level football, including his time in France and abroad, is seen as an asset for potential suitors. However, his salary expectations may present a challenge for some interested clubs.
As the summer window approaches, Diallo’s future is expected to attract further attention, with a return to European football increasingly viewed as a strong possibility.
