Abdelkahar Kadri scores classy cup goal for KAA Gent
La Gantoise booked their place in the Belgian Cup quarterfinals with a 3-1 away win over Cercle Bruges, in a game lit up by a fine strike from Algerian international Abdelkahar Kadri.
Gent struck early through Van der Heyden in the 4th minute, but the hosts responded on 35 minutes via Oluwaseun Adewumi to make it 1-1.
Just before half-time, Kadri restored Gent’s lead with a moment of instinct and quality in the box. A deflected ball fell awkwardly as the Gent centre-forward tried to control it, but his touch turned into a perfect assist for Kadri, who arrived in the area and finished clinically with a curling shot into the far corner after a small bounce.
Gent went on to add a third after the break, calmly managing the tie to seal a deserved 3-1 victory away from home.
The result sends them through to the last eight of the competition, where they will face the winner of the clash between Genk and Anderlecht, while Kadri’s composed finish earned praise on social media and from Belgian broadcasters.
