Abdelkader Bedrane’s header and Amir Sayoud’s decisive assist helped Al Hazem claim a 2-1 win over Damac in the Saudi Pro League on Sunday.
Damac, who have struggled in recent weeks with just two points from their last five games, were looking to bolster their survival bid in an away fixture against a resilient Al Hazem side.
The first half saw chances for both sides, including a missed penalty for Damac, but it was Bedrane who broke the deadlock early in the second half.
In the 49th minute, the defender powered a header from Al Obaid’s cross to give Al Hazem the lead.
Damac responded strongly, and Youssef Al Shammeri levelled in the 76th minute with a skilful lob over the goalkeeper following a tight-angle delivery.
The match appeared headed for a draw, but Sayoud’s quality from a corner proved decisive.
Al Dakheel connected with the delivery in the 87th minute, securing a crucial three points for the home side.
Bedrane’s all-around contribution, including his match-winning goal, earned him the man of the match accolade.
The victory moves Al Hazem up the Saudi Pro League table, while Damac remain under pressure as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.
Both sides will look to build on their performances as the season enters its critical phase, with survival and mid-table positions still very much at stake.
