Abdelhak Nouri’s father reveals positive improvement in former Ajax star’s condition

The father of former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Abdelhak Nouri has revealed that his son’s mental state has shown significant improvement, describing the development as a source of great happiness and renewed hope for the family.

Mohamed Nouri said the 29-year-old is currently in a better condition than before, with the improvement in his mental state bringing encouragement to the family that has remained by his side since the tragic incident that ended his football career.

Speaking to Hespress, Nouri’s father expressed his joy at the latest development and thanked everyone who has continued to support Abdelhak and the family throughout the years.

He explained that Abdelhak is currently living with his family, where he continues to receive constant care and attention.

According to his father, every sign of improvement is welcomed as an important moment for the family, particularly after the difficult journey they have experienced since the former Ajax academy player suffered his medical emergency.

“By the grace of God,” Mohamed Nouri attributed the improvement to his son’s condition, while revealing that the family has never stopped praying for his recovery.

“We never stinted on prayers and acts of charity for Abdelhak; we always hoped God would grant him recovery and improvement,” he said.

Nouri’s father also expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan and Dutch supporters who have continued to stand behind Abdelhak and his family.

He acknowledged the prayers, messages of support and words of encouragement they have received over the years, stressing that the solidarity shown by supporters has provided the family with strength during an extremely difficult period.

Abdelhak Nouri came through Ajax’s renowned academy and progressed into the first team after representing the Netherlands at youth level.

He was regarded as one of the promising young talents in Dutch football before his career was suddenly brought to an end during a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen in Austria on July 8, 2017.

Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest during the match and received emergency treatment on the pitch before being taken to hospital.

The incident resulted in severe and permanent brain damage, preventing him from continuing his professional football career.

Since then, Nouri has remained under the care of his family, while his story has generated widespread sympathy in both Morocco and the Netherlands.

More than nine years after the incident, his family continues to closely monitor his condition, with every sign of progress providing encouragement.
