Abdel Raouf backs Zamalek to overcome key absences
Zamalek coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf believes his team can still deliver a big performance against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup, despite missing influential duo Abdallah El Said and Nabil Emad Donga.
He described the group-stage clash in Polokwane as a tough test, stressing that Zamalek travels only to win and secure another three points after opening their campaign with a victory over Zesco United.
Abdel Raouf explained that the squad has been treated with respect since arriving in South Africa and underlined his staff’s awareness of Kaizer Chiefs’ organization, home support and clear playing style. He admitted the absence of El Said and Donga is significant, but insisted Zamalek’s squad has enough quality options to cover for any missing players.
The coach revealed that the staff analyzed errors from the Zesco match, where Zamalek wasted several chances and only won 1-0, and have worked to correct them in training. He added that he does not think about his own future at the club, focusing instead on making every game count for Zamalek’s history before his personal reputation.
Team captain Omar Gaber echoed his coach’s confidence, noting that Zamalek knows South African football well after facing Stellenbosch last season and fully respects Kaizer Chiefs’ strength. He said the players are determined to fight for another win and have prepared seriously to collect three more points.
Abdelraouf also held a detailed video session with the squad, highlighting Kaizer Chiefs’ strengths and weaknesses and assigning specific roles to each player ahead of the final tactical drills. Zamalek will wear their traditional all-white kit at Peter Mokaba Stadium, while the confirmed squad list covers three goalkeepers, a deep defensive unit, a packed midfield and forwards led by Seifeddine Jaziri and Adi Debbagh
