Aaron Danks provides positive update on Vincent Kompany after hospital visit

Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks has revealed that Vincent Kompany is in good spirits and showing signs of improvement following the Belgian manager’s collapse at the club’s training ground last Friday.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of Bayern’s DFB-Pokal second-round clash against FC Magdeburg, Danks confirmed that he had visited the 40-year-old in hospital on Monday and was encouraged by his condition.

“I popped in to see Vincent briefly yesterday. He’s in good spirits. It looks as though things are improving day by day,” Danks said.

Kompany was taken to hospital after collapsing while watching a training session involving Bayern’s reserve team. The former Manchester City captain had reportedly been battling a viral infection before the incident.

No diagnosis or return date for Kompany

Despite the encouraging update, Bayern are still waiting for a definitive diagnosis, and there is no confirmed timetable for Kompany’s return to work.

Danks stressed that the manager is receiving the time and space needed to recover, with the club avoiding unnecessary pressure over his comeback.

“There are no major updates in terms of diagnosis or return to work. Let him rest, let him take his time,” the assistant coach added.

Danks also revealed that their hospital conversation was focused on personal matters rather than football, with Kompany asking about the coaching staff and the players.

Danks leads Bayern during Kompany’s absence

With Kompany expected to remain away from the touchline for several weeks, Danks and the rest of Bayern’s coaching staff have assumed responsibility for training and match preparations.

Bayern face Magdeburg in the German Cup on Wednesday before hosting Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The club’s immediate priority is to maintain its competitive momentum while allowing Kompany to recover fully.

For now, the latest update offers encouragement to Bayern supporters, although the manager’s return will depend on his medical progress and further examinations.

Bayern have made clear that Kompany will be given the time he needs, with no pressure to resume his duties before he is ready.
