Amidst heightened tension in Brazil, Algeria is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its 200,000 expected supporters and players during the 2014 World Cup.
According to reports from Brasil.catch.com, Algeria will dispatch “handpicked” police officers to Brazil to oversee the security of the Algerian football team throughout the tournament. The announcement was made by a senior police official.
Aïssa Naïli, the director of public security at the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), stated, “Highly competent police personnel will accompany the Algerian team to Brazil. They will operate within the security framework established by the Brazilian government for the World Cup.” These officers will play a vital role in enforcing law and order, both at checkpoints and in various locations. They will also engage directly with Algerian supporters traveling to Brazil.
Algeria is placed in Group H alongside Belgium, Russia, and South Korea.
