The club announced the formalization of the appointment through a somewhat concise press release, stating, “A contractual agreement for the next two seasons has been reached. He will officially sign his contract the next time he comes to Marseille, at the end of the championship.” Will the arrival of the Argentine coach be the saving grace for the Phocaeans? Souleymane Diawara, however, issues a cautious note to his future coach.
“Personally, I didn’t know him. I didn’t even know he was a coach,” admits the Senegalese defender in La Provence. “In Marseille, only the results count. If you don’t deliver results, regardless of your reputation, you’ll face criticism. I hope he proves to be the right man for the job.”
At the conclusion of his contract, the former Bordeaux player may not have the “pleasure” of working under the new coach.
