The suspension comes as a result of accusations that the Gambian team falsified the ages of at least five players. The decision was made in accordance with the regulations of the African U20 championship, specifically Article 37, paragraph 1, which stipulates that any deliberate attempt to deceive or cheat by falsifying official documents will result in the guilty federation being suspended for two years from all CAF competitions.
Among the players implicated in the falsification of records is Ali Sowe, who was born on June 14, 1994, but had previously been registered with CAF in 2012 with a different birth date (October 14, 1988) and the same passport number. This discrepancy led to the suspension of The Gambia’s football federation.
